"His vocals are as weathered as an old highway sign and as inviting as your favorite mom and pop diner... Overall, the collection is the musical equivalent of the Great American Novel: a work that captures what it means to be human – the shortcomings and the triumphs, the heartaches and the joys." - Paula Cummings, NYSMusic.com

"Taylor’s economy of melody and intuitive feel for the shape of verses and phrases recalls such heroes as Dylan and Van Zandt. Despair, dissolution, and an occluded sweetness are the very DNA of these dark-side Americana ballads.” - John Burdick, Hudson Valley One

Long

A South Texas songwriter shaped by hard-won clarity, Jules Taylor brings the precision of a craftsman and the soul of a witness. Drawing from Texas country, folk, blues, and bluegrass, his dark Americana pairs a weathered voice with bluegrass-rooted flatpicking and a storyteller’s attention to detail.

Taylor’s songs explore love, grief, mortality, faith, and working-class life. In the traditions of Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark, he approaches those subjects through recognizable people, places, and contradictions. His literary sensibility gives the songs depth, while his plainspoken delivery keeps them close to the listener.

Born and raised in South Texas, Taylor developed his craft through years spent in Nashville and New York’s Catskill Mountains before returning to Texas in 2022. His four albums document a musician willing to explore different arrangements while keeping the song at the center.

Alone and Solo V1 (2016) captured fourteen songs performed and live-looped at New York City’s Rockwood Music Hall, released as both an album and a performance video. Mountain Time (2018) expanded into Southern rock and Americana, while Whiskey Clear (2024), recorded with steel guitarist Jon Light, returned to the immediacy of two musicians playing together without overdubs.

The Siren and the Wordsmith (2025), recorded in Rockport, Texas, at Coastal Bend Music, features Grammy Award-winning pedal steel guitarist John Macy and fiddler Chisum Mills. Its songs draw on personal loss, literary imagery, and existential questioning to explore the complicated persistence of love and memory.

A 2024 inductee into the Corpus Christi Songwriters Hall of Fame, Taylor performs original songs alongside Texas favorites, bringing sharp storytelling, bluegrass-rooted guitar work, and a deep connection to the Texas songwriting tradition to listening rooms, theaters, and crowded honky-tonks.
